Denver experiences its second-warmest summer since 1872
Denver has experienced its second-warmest summer since 1872, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
According to data from the NWS, Denver’s average temperature for August was 75.6 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 2.7 degrees above normal. The highest temperature throughout the month was 102 degrees Fahrenheit on August 4, setting a daily record high temperature for the date. The daily record high of 98 degrees was also tied on August 17.
It’s also worth noting that the Mile High City only saw 0.92 inches of precipitation throughout August, which is 0.66 inches below the norm of 1.58 inches.
Looking back, Denver saw the temperature reach triple-digits six days this past summer. This gives 2024 the third-place spot for the ‘most 100-degree days in a year’ in Denver. The year of 2012 continues to hold that record with 13 days that reached the triple-digits, and 2005 had seven.
Although we are entering fall, we still have several weeks until the temperatures really start to cool down. According to the NWS’s monthly temperature outlook, Colorado’s temperatures should stay above average for September.
