Man arrested in Michigan in connection to Fort Collins shooting

Tylen Michael Grays, 35, allegedly shot and killed Keiter Baez Morales, 31, on Aug. 11

Fort Collins Police Services, with the help of the US Marshal’s Office in Detroit, arrested a suspect in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred in the Old Town neighborhood on Aug. 11.

Tylen Michael Grays, 35, was arrested on Tuesday in connection to the murder of 31-year-old Keiter Baez Morales and the injury of a woman following a shooting around 1 a.m. at 215 Remington St., according to a news release from the police department.

Officers initially responded to a report of a shooting in a parking lot in the area.

Morales and the woman were found with injuries and transported to a nearby hospital, where Morales later died.

The shooting occurred after a dispute between two groups, authorities said.

A local business’ camera helped detectives identify the suspect as Grays, authorities said.

Detectives also learned that Grays had fled to Michigan after the shooting, authorities said. They contacted the U.S. Marshal’s Office and were able to detain the suspect Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, four counts of menacing and other charges.

Grays will be expedited back to Colorado in the coming days, authorities said.

“It is important to note that the actions of a single individual have permanently altered the lives of several victims, their families and our community. We hope that this arrest is a small comfort to the family and friends of Mr. Baez Morales,” FCPS Chief Jeff Swoboda said in the news release.
