Commerce City man charged with murder in connection to triple shooting

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed charges against a Commerce City man in connection to a shooting that left two injured and one dead.
Ethan Jennings, 21, faces a count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault following a shooting that occurred on Sept. 6 that left 20-year-old Makayla Lawrence dead, according to a news release from the district attorney’s office.
Commerce City police were alerted about shots fired in the 7300 block of Oneida Drive around 1 a.m. on Sept. 6 by their new gunfire detection software. Upon arrival, officers found two women and one man had been shot. One of the women, later identified as Lawrence, was pronounced dead. The other two were taken to a nearby hospital.
Initially, suspect information was unknown.
The district attorney’s office officially filed charges against the suspect on Thursday.
Investigators did not reveal any specifics about the relationship between the suspect and the victims.
