The Denver Gazette’s predictions for Broncos-Buccaneers
Can Sean Payton's Broncos score their first win — or will Baker Mayfield's Bucs pour it on?
The Denver Gazette sports staff gives their predictions for Sunday’s Broncos-Buccaneers game.
Paul Klee’s pick: Buccaneers 33, Broncos 13
It was Week 3 of Sean Payton’s first season when Denver flew to Florida and the wheels came off the Broncos’ bus: Dolphins 70, Broncos 10. Week 3 of Payton’s second go-round won’t be historically bad — but Baker’s Bucs win big.
Klee’s record: 2-0 overall
Chris Schmaedeke’s pick: Buccaneers 23, Broncos 17
Tampa Bay is good team from the NFC and Denver is going to have a tough time on the road. The game will be close and probably not the best watch but maybe we finally see something out of Bo Nix to get excited about.
Schmaedeke’s record: 1-1 overall
Chris Tomasson’s pick: Buccaneers 23, Broncos 21
Hey, at least it won’t be as bad as Week 3 in Florida last year, when it was an Orange Flush and the Broncos were humiliated 70-20 at Miami. The Broncos are 1-4 in their history in Florida in September. The only win was 23-13 in 2021 against a dreadful Jacksonville team and, at 80 degrees, it wasn’t all that hot.
Tomasson’s record: 2-0 overall
Mark Kiszla’s pick: Buccaneers 30, Broncos 16
I try to be Mr. Sunshine, and this is the thanks I get? I picked the Broncos to start the season 2-0, and what happened? Nada. Really, Sean and Bo? That sorry excuse for an offense is the best you’ve got? Well, no more Mr. Nice Guy. I will pick the Broncos to lose until they prove capable of winning a game.
Kiszla’s record: 0-2 overall
Kyle Fredrickson’s pick: Buccaneers 20, Broncos 10
The good news? Rookie quarterback Bo Nix finally throws his first NFL regular season touchdown. There is hope for a brighter future. The bad news? There isn’t enough talent around Nix to beat a quality road opponent. It will continue to get worse before it gets better for the Broncos.
Fredrickson: 2-0 overall
