Broncos wide receiver Devaughn Vele inactive vs. Buccaneers, tackle Frank Crum inactive for first time
TAMPA, Fla. – Broncos rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele, not fully recovered from a broken rib, was inactive for the second straight game Sunday against Tampa Bay at Raymond James Stadium.
With Vele out, rookie Troy Franklin was active for the second straight week.
Vele had told The Denver Gazette on Friday he suffered a broken rib in the Sept. 8 opener at Seattle and did not know if he would be active to face the Buccaneers. The injury came on a hit late in the game by Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson, and Vele had been inactive for the Sept. 15 game against Pittsburgh.
Also inactive for the Broncos were safety JL Skinner, who was ruled out Friday due to an ankle injury, running back Blake Watson, defensive lineman Eyimoa Uwazurike, cornerback Kris Abrams-Draine, tight end Lucas Krull and Zach Wilson, serving as the emergency qurterback.
Rookie tackle Frank Crum was active for the first time this season due to tackle Mike McGlinchey having been placed last week on injured reserve.
Inactive for the Buccaneers were safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot), defensive tackle Vita Vea (knee), tight end Devin Culp, tackle Luke Goedeke, wide receiver Kameron Johnson, defensive tackle Calijah Kancey and outside linebacker Jose Ramirez.
