Victim identified in Greeley fatal shooting

Haven Ramirez, 21, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Gabriel Mauricio, 24, on Sept. 19.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the victim shot and killed in Greeley after arguing with a gang member about gangs.

Gabriel Mauricio, 24, was shot and killed on Sept. 19 around 2 a.m. at a home in the 2700 block of C Street, according to a news release from the coroner’s office. A suspect, 21-year-old Haven Ramirez, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder the same day.

The Greeley Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at the home after a neighbor called, according to the arrest affidavit. Upon entering the home, Mauricio was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Two witnesses reported that the shooter left the scene in a red Subaru. They also noted that Ramirez and the victim had argued throughout the evening about “gang membership,” according to arrest records. During one of the arguments, Ramirez pulled a gun from his waistband.

The two got into a physical fight outside. Mauricio then went back inside of the home. Ramirez followed, but one of the witnesses attempted to shut the door on him.

Ramirez allegedly pushed through the door and fired several shots at Mauricio from the threshold, killing him.

Officers later arrested Ramirez at his home on Sept. 19. He told police that he was at the house when he heard a woman mention a gun. He claimed that he grabbed his gun off the couch and took off running. While running away, he fired his gun toward the residence because he feared for his life, according to the affidavit.

Ramirez was booked in the Weld County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and two counts of felony menacing, according to police.
