Boulder police investigating fatal pedestrian crash

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. Friday

The Boulder Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that left a pedestrian dead Friday morning.

Officers responded to the crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Broadway and Rayleigh Road — in the Martin Acres neighborhood and around half a mile from the Halcyon Special Education School — around 5 a.m. Friday morning, according to a social media post from the department.

A 27-year-old man driving a 2004 Honda Civic was traveling north on Broadway and struck a 38-year-old woman walking north of the intersection’s crosswalk, the department said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver stayed to assist investigations. There were no initial indications of driver speed or impairment being a factor in the crash, police said.

Northbound Broadway at Ash Avenue was closed for investigations until around 10:30 a.m.

The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and notify the next of kin.

There have been 58 pedestrian crash deaths in Colorado between Jan. 1 and Sept. 24 of this year, marking a decrease from the 90 in the same time period last year, according to data from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Prior to today, only two of the 58 pedestrian deaths occurred in Boulder County.
