Motorless Morning set for Garden of the Gods

The summer traffic rush behind, people can breathe more freely now at Garden of the Gods. For one morning coming up, they can breathe nothing but fresh air — no fumes at all.

Sunday, Oct. 6, is the park’s next scheduled Motorless Morning. People on foot, bike, skateboards and roller skates will have the looping, rolling roads to themselves from 5 a.m. to noon. That’s when gates will be down at the Garden’s entrances, blocking vehicles as part of an opportunity that only comes around every so often.

Progress continues toward vision of Colorado Springs open space

Since 2018, Motorless Mornings have typically been scheduled for a morning in spring and another in fall. The city of Colorado Springs has also closed roads for “Early Bird Hikes and Bikes” from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. on the last Wednesdays of summer months.

For the upcoming Motorless Morning, parking will be available at the large lot beside the Garden’s main entrance (the corner of 30th Street and Gateway Road), the visitor center (1805 30th Street) and Garden of the Gods Trading Post (324 Beckers Lane, Manitou Springs).

Designated parking is reserved for people with disabilities at the visitor center. For those visitors, a shuttle will run into the park upon request.
