Movie rundown for the weekend through Oct. 6: Joker – Folie à Deux and more

Blink and Monster Summer opening, and more.

OPENING

“Blink” — (Documentary, PG, 84 minutes). A family takes a global trip before the children lose their vision to a rare genetic disorder.

“Frankie Freako” — (Adventure, not rated, 85 minutes). Workaholic Conor finds a bizarre ad for a party hotline hosted by Frankie Freako and thinks this may be just what he needs to spice up his boring life.

“Joker: Folie à Deux” — (Drama, R, 138 minutes). While in prison awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker, Arthur Fleck finds the love of his life and discovers the music that has always been inside him.

“Monster Summer” — (Adventure, PG-13, 97 minutes). Noah and his friends team up with a retired police officer and go on a monstrous adventure to save their island.

“Sam and Colby: The Legends of the Paranormal” — (Adventure, not rated, 98 minutes). Two paranormal investigators set out to investigate a desert ranch that is known for ghosts, UFO’s and monsters.

“White Bird” — (Adventure, PG-13, 120 minutes). Julian, who is struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled from his last one, is transformed after hearing stories from his grandmother of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II.

ONGOING

“Alien: Romulus” — (Horror, R, 119 minutes). A group of young space colonizers encounter a terrifying life form while scavenging a derelict space station.

“Azrael” — (Action, R, 85 minutes). Azrael must fight to survive after being imprisoned by a female-led community in a world where no one speaks.

“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” — (Comedy, PG-13, 104 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. A portal to the afterlife is opened after Lydia’s teenage daughter finds a model of the town in the attic of the Winter River home. Lydia knows it won’t be long before someone says Beetlejuice three times and the demon will return to unleash his own brand of mayhem.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” — (Action, R, 127 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Deadpool and Wolverine team up to defeat a common enemy.

“Despicable Me 4” — (Animation, PG, 95 minutes). Grade: D, Katie Walsh. The family, including the newest member Gru Jr., are forced to go on the run when Gru faces new nemeses, Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend Valentina.

“Devara: Part 1” — (Action, not rated, 185 minutes). An action saga set against India’s coastal islands.

“Faith of Angels” — (Drama, PG, 98 minutes). A stranger is compelled by mysterious callings to search for a boy who is lost in an abandoned mine.

“The Forge” — (Drama, PG, 123 minutes). A year after graduating high school, Isaiah is challenged by his single mother to start making better life choices. When Isaiah discovers God, his life become much more than what he could have ever imagined.

“Howl’s Moving Castle” Studio Ghibli Fest 2024 — (Animation, PG, 119 minutes). A young woman was cursed with an old body by a witch and her only hope of breaking the spell is by being helped by a wizard and his legged, walking castle.

“It Ends with Us” — (Drama, PG-13, 130 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Adapted from Colleen Hoover’s first novel telling the story of Lily, who after overcoming her traumatic childhood sparks a connection with a neurosurgeon but is afraid to get too serious after she sees something in him that reminds her of her parents’ relationship.

“Lee” — (Drama, R, 117 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. The story of American photographer Lee Miller, who became a war correspondent during WWII for Vogue magazine.

“Mean Girls” 20th Anniversary — (Comedy, PG-13, 87 minutes). New student Cady is in with the elite group at school called The Plastics until she makes the mistake of falling for the alpha Plastic’s ex-boyfriend.

“Megalopolis” — (Sci-fi, R, 138 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. When there is a difference of opinion on what should become of the city of New Rome, Julia Cicero’s loyalty becomes divided between her father, the greedy Mayor Franklyn Cicero, and her beloved, an artist named Cesar Catilina.

“The Metropolitan Opera: Les Contes d’Hoffmann” — (Opera, not rated, 245 minutes). A live broadcast of opera performed at The Metropolitan Opera.

“My Old Ass” — (Comedy, R, 88 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. Elliott begins to rethink her life after a mushroom trip brings her face-to-face with her 39-year-old self.

“Never Let Go” — (Drama, R, 101 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. After being haunted by an evil spirit for years, a family’s safety is in danger when one of the children asks if the evil is real.

“Notice to Quit” — (Drama, PG-13, 91 minutes). As his life spirals out of control, out-of-work actor and struggling New York City realtor, Andy Singer tries to save his home and relationship with his estranged 10-year-old daughter.

“Reagan” — (Biography, PG-13, 135 minutes). A drama based on Ronald Reagan’s life, from childhood to his time in the oval office.

“Speak No Evil” — (Thriller, R, 110 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. A family’s dream vacation turns into a psychological nightmare.

“The Substance” — (Horror, R, 140 minutes). Grade: A, Katie Walsh. A celebrity who is past her prime decides to try a black-market drug that will temporarily make her a younger, better version of herself.

“Transformers One” — (Action PG, 104 minutes). Tells the story of a time when Optimus Prime and Megatron, who were good friends, changed the fate of Cybetron forever.

“The Wild Robot” — (Animation, PG, 102 minutes). After becoming shipwrecked on an uninhabited island, an intelligent robot named Roz bonds with the island’s animals and starts caring for an orphaned baby goose.

“Wolfs” — (Crime, R, 108 minutes). Two rivals must put aside their egos and grievances when they are both put on a job to help cover up a New York official’s misstep.
