1 dead following commercial fire in Denver

Arson investigators are now looking into the Tuesday morning fire

Denver Fire Department arson investigators are now looking into a commercial fire that left one dead Tuesday morning.

The department responded to a structure fire at a small commercial building near 36th Street and Wazee Street — near the 38th-Blake light rail station in the River North neighborhood — around 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to a social media post from the department.

No injuries were reported initially, but the department noted in a subsequent post that one person was found dead around 7:30 a.m., after the fire was put out.

Arson investigators are responding to the incident, according to the department.

The fire occurred in an abandoned building, the Denver Fire Department told The Denver Gazette’s news partner, 9News. All of the doors were shut and firefighters entered through a window.

The area of 36th Street and Wazee Street will be closed all morning while the department investigates.
