1 killed in Castle Rock officer-involved shooting
Police continue to investigate the incident
One suspect is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Castle Rock Wednesday evening.
The Castle Rock Police Department responded to the area of Bilberry Street and Meadows Boulevard — in the Meadows neighborhood — around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, a spokesperson with the department told The Denver Gazette.
Officers received a report from a neighbor that a man with a stick had grabbed and broken their phone after an altercation. The neighbor also mentioned that the man may be armed with a shotgun, according to a news release from the department.
Upon arrival, officers witnessed the man breaking into the leasing office of a nearby apartment building with a shotgun in his hand, the department said. He then barricaded himself inside of the building and officers heard at least one shot fired inside.
The man then left the building and allegedly fired at police, with officers returning fire and hitting and killing the man. No officers were injured in the incident.
The officers involved were placed on administrative leave by the department as the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office’s Critical Incident Response Team investigates the incident, per protocol.
The Douglas County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the suspect after investigations.
