Douglas County School District seeks voter approval for a $490 million bond measure for new schools
Douglas County School District $490 million bond measure
The Douglas County School District Board of Education is asking voters to approve a $490 million bond measure that officials say will fund new schools, create more programs and upgrade existing facilities.
Officials said the bond will not impose a new tax, though it could potentially cost the public up to $895 million once the borrowing is fully paid.
A similar bond proposal failed last year.
The Douglas County School District has 90 schools across the county, serving more than 63,000 students.
Castle Rock sales tax increase for first responders
Voters in Castle Rock, a growing community of 88,000 people, will decide on its first sales tax increase since 2011.
Officials said that, if approved, the tax hike would fund 22 new police officers and 18 firefighters to accommodate its burgeoning population and increase in local emergency response calls. The Castle Rock Town Council unanimously approved the 0.2-point sales tax increase.
The home rule community between Denver and Colorado Springs has grown considerably in the past four years. Its population has increased by more than 10,000 people since 2020, prompting the town to project a higher need for first responders.
