Traffic stop leads to large meth bust, firearm seizure in El Paso County
A traffic stop led to the discovery of methamphetamines and an illegal firearm earlier this week.
An El Paso County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputy was near Constitution Avenue and Marksheffel Road working under a Colorado Department of Transportation High Visibility Traffic Grant when the deputy initiated a traffic stop around 7:30 a.m.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Osvaldo Luque-Camargo, was driving on a suspended license without insurance. According to a Sheriff’s Office release, the deputy noticed a firearm on the center console of the car. Luque-Camargo allegedly gave “conflicting stories” about the vehicle’s registration.

Luque-Camargo consented to a search, and the deputy found 380 grams of methamphetamines, a firearm without a serial number, “drug distribution paraphernalia,” gift cards and debit cards not registered to Luque-Camargo.
According to law enforcement sources the average dose of meth is 0.1 to 0.5 grams, depending on which form the drug is in.
The driver was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of unlawful possession for distribution, unlawful possession of financial devices, being a special offender and multiple traffic infractions.
Luque-Camargo is being held on a $50,000 bond.
