1 pedestrian dead in Colorado Highway 470 crash
The driver stayed on the scene to assist the investigation
A pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing Colorado Highway 470 in Jefferson County Saturday morning.
The Colorado State Patrol responded to a crash on the highway around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the department. A woman pedestrian had been struck and killed by a Chevrolet Suburban.
The driver of the Suburban stayed at the scene to help with the investigation. The pedestrian — a 52-year-old woman from Arizona — was pronounced dead at the scene.
The department did not note whether speed or alcohol were a factor in the crash as investigations into the incident are still ongoing by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
There were 77 pedestrian-automotive deaths in the state between Jan. 1 and Oct. 17 this year, a significant drop from the 99 in the same time period last year, according to data from the Colorado Department of Transportation.
