Trail Ridge Road still closed due to wintery conditions that are present
The iconic Trial Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) will remain in-part temporarily closed due to freezing temperatures, ice, and snow.
According to an Instagram post from RMNP, the road is closed on the park’s west side at Colorado River Trailhead and at Many Parks Curve on its east side.
While this closure is being called ‘temporary,’ upper stretches of Trail Ridge Road often close for the winter season at some point in October. The road typically reopens in late-May.
RMNP also warned that Colorado Vehicle Traction Law may become active at any time. The law requires all vehicles to have properly rated tires (mud and snow, mountain and snow, or all-weather tires) with a minimum of 3/16 inches of tread. If your vehicle doesn’t have the proper tires, you must use an approved traction control device like snow chains, cables, tire/snow socks, or studded tires.
