Lakewood: Free leaf recycling begins Nov. 16
When temperatures drop, so do leaves.
So, where do Lakewood residents drop those dropped leaves?
At the Lakewood City Forestry Greenhouse, of course.
Beginning Nov. 16, the City of Lakewood is hosting a free leaf recycling event to lend local residents a hand with fall cleanup efforts and to raise awareness regarding proper disposal practices.
Residents may drop off leaves weekdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 16 to Nov. 25, at the City Greenhouse, 9556 W. Yale Ave., and on Saturday Nov. 16 and 23 only.
Leaves should be emptied from their bags onto the pile where they will be recycled into compost, mulch and other landscape materials, according to the city’s website.
No bags, including compostable bags, will be accepted and proof of Lakewood residency is required. Commercial businesses are not eligible for this event.
Branches, woody brush or tree stumps will not be accepted.
It is a violation of Lakewood Municipal Code to sweep or blow leaves or any other debris into the street. The city notes that piles of leaves can clog the storm drain system and damage street sweepers.
