Kickin’ it with Kiz: What CU star Travis Hunter could teach Kamala Harris or Donald Trump about winning votes

There are a whole lot of football analysts out there that don’t know the “X” and “B” buttons on their video game controller from a hole in the ground.

What can CU Buffs star Travis Hunter do to win the Heisman Trophy? How about he tries to finish with at least 1,200 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns, while grabbing a couple more interceptions?

– N.C., hot-n-spicy

Kiz: We know Hunter has first-round skills as both a receiver and defensive back. But who knew he was a top-notch politician? With the CU Buffs on a bye, Hunter could’ve headed to Las Vegas or Cancun. But his first stop was Happy Valley, Penn., to appear live for an interview on Fox’s pregame show for Big Noon Kickoff. “Nobody has ever done what I’ve been doing,” he said. Impressive. Hunter might’ve earned himself more good will in Pennsylvania with Heisman voters than anything Kamala Harris or Donald Trump has done of late by barnstorming across the Keystone State in hopes of winning hearts and minds.

I saw Dan Pizzuta from The 33rd Team website rank Bo Nix the 28th best quarterback in the league. That’s clickbait, designed to tick off all Broncos fans and drive engagement. I think it would be fair to rank Nix in the 15-20 range.

– A.B., recovering Rockies fan

Kiz: What fans don’t understand is that few, if any, football analysts actually hate your team. But there are a whole lot of football analysts out there that don’t know the “X” and “B” buttons on their video game controller from a hole in the ground. Sean Payton couldn’t wait until he could dump Russell Wilson but eagerly anticipates every practice with Nix. It’s a bro-mance that’s good for the Broncos.

Kiz, your reference to the 1973 album “Houses of the Holy” in a column about Ravens running back Derrick Henry demonstrated you are obviously still young and learning. With a little more age and experience you would understand that Led Zeppelin went soft on that album. They could never do another Led Zeppelin II.

– Roy from Fort Fun

Kiz: Well, we all know that I know nothing about sports. But music? That’s whole ‘nuther topic. In 1973, while the kids in my high school were getting high to “Houses of the Holy,’’ what moved me was the debut album by a skinny kid from New Jersey named Springsteen and the Rev. Al Green putting heart and soul into songs by Hank Williams and Willie Nelson. But you’re right. “Houses of the Holy” didn’t rock. Truth be told, I’ve always believed “The Rain Song” was so sappy it could’ve been written by Neil Sedaka.

And today’s parting shot is from a Nuggets fan that doesn’t believe five games into this NBA season is too soon to hit the panic button.

Kiz, without expounding on how long I’ve been a Nuggets fan, basketball player and general sports aficionado, I would rather get to the point everyone seems to be tip-toeing around. The Nuggets vastly overpaid guard Jamal Murray, whose decline started shortly after the team won the NBA championship in 2023. Ownership better start looking for a talented general manager, a shooter who can make 3s and a bench that can play better than a JUCO squad.
