October 2024 pushed near ‘record warmest’ ever in Denver
In case you forgot, it was very warm in Denver during October, but did it break the record for warmest ever?
The National Weather Service in Boulder released its Monthly Climate Summary on Friday and found temperatures were substantially above normal in Denver during October 2024.
Denver’s mean temperature was 59.1°F, which is 8.0°F above normal. This makes October 2024 the second warmest October on record. Multiple records were either tied or broken in Denver as well. The hottest October on record was 1950 when the mean temperature was 59.9°F.
The highest temperature for the month was 89°F on Oct. 2, and the lowest temperature was 24°F which occurred on Oct. 30.
“We were on pace to be the warmest October on record; however, we slipped into second place as an upper-level trough of low pressure and associated cold front brought much colder temperatures to the region the last two days of the month,” the NWS said in the report.
Not only was it very warm, but very dry as well.

Recorded precipitation for October 2024 was only 0.11” which is 0.88 inches below the normal of 0.99.”
No snow was observed, which is 3.9” below the normal October snowfall and no precipitation records were observed during the month either.
Drought conditions worsened to go along with the dryness and warmth.
According to the NWS, drought conditions worsened across portions of north central and northeastern Colorado. As of Oct. 29, the worst conditions stretched from the northern Front Range Mountains across the northern foothills into the northern Front Range urban corridor.
Some relief has arrived, however.
The first four days of November have seen closer-to-seasonal temperatures not only in Denver, but statewide.
Precipitation has fallen across Colorado as well.

Colorado’s mountain snowpack sits at 134% of average as of Monday; however, Denver proper has stayed less wet, with 0.04 inches of precipitation measured at the city’s official weather station at Denver International Airport.
