Hood, Scott, Montera take early leads for University of Colorado regents

This was the only statewide seat for the Board of Regents, and some 3.8 million voters cast a ballot in the race.

Colorado voters on Tuesday night decided the fate of three seats open on the nine-member University of Colorado Board of Regents.

The University of Colorado Board of Regents consists of nine members serving staggered six-year terms, one elected from each of Colorado’s eight congressional districts and one from the state at large.

For the at-large seat, Democrat Elliott Hood currently holds a 4-point lead over Republican opponent Eric Rinard. As of 11 p.m., Hood leads at 51% with Rinard trailing with 47%, according to early and unofficial results.

This was the only statewide seat for the Board of Regents, and some 3.8 million voters cast a ballot in the race.

In District 3, Republican Ray Scott is leading Democratic challenger Robert Logan, according to Tuesday’s unofficial and initial results. Scott currently leads with 56% of the unofficial vote tally. Logan has 44%.

The district covers most of Colorado’s Western Slope and parts of Southern Colorado, including Pueblo County and the San Luis Valley. Its major cities are Grand Junction, Pueblo, Durango and Aspen.

In District 5, which covers nearly all of El Paso County, including Colorado Springs, the unofficial results show Republican Ken Montera is on pace to defeat Democratic challenger Axel Brown with a 18-point lead, 59% to 41%, as of 11 p.m. Tuesday.
