The Denver Police Department arrested a fellow officer after allegedly filing a false auto-theft report after a hit-and-run crash.
Officer Zurisadai Beltran was both fired and arrested by the Denver Police Department on Wednesday after an anonymous tip alleged Beltran filed a false report in 2022 — before she was hired by the department, according to a press release from the police department.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau informed the department of the anonymous tip on Aug. 1 in connection to a hit-and-run crash that occurred on April 16, 2022. On that day, Beltran’s vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run crash while being driven by an acquaintance. She then filed a police report that the vehicle was stolen.
According to the tip, Beltran was not in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The investigation revealed that after filing the police report, she filed a claim with her insurance company that resulted in a payout by the insurance company to the lienholder, according to the press release.
Beltran was hired by the department in 2023 and was still on her probationary period when the investigation began. She was terminated by the department upon her arrest and final charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney’s Office after investigations.
