Denver contractor sentenced for stealing $3 million

Kyle Arienta

A man charged with stealing more than $3 million from Denver customers has been sentenced to 23 years in prison, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities described him as a “prolific thief.”

Kyle Arienta, 40, was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty to one count under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, another of securities fraud, and one count of theft, plus two counts of burglary in connection to a string of contractor-related thefts in the city.

Arienta stole around $1.1 million from three families who had hired him to complete construction projects on their homes in Denver. He eventually abandoned all three projects after only doing minimal work, according to authorities.

He also convinced “numerous” former clients and friends to send them “investments” on a construction project that did not exist, leading to around $1.7 million stolen from the investors, according to a news release.

Arienta also burglarized several homes in Denver’s Crestmoor, Hilltop, Wash Park and Belcaro neighborhoods in November 2023, authorities said.

Along with the 23-year sentence, Arienta will also pay $3.3 million in restitution to his victims.

“Kyle Arienta was a prolific thief in our community, often preying on friends and acquaintances,” Denver District Attorney Beth McCann said in the release. “In addition to burglarizing numerous homes in the Denver area, Arienta also violated the trust of his clients and friends, stealing significant amounts of their money. I am very pleased that, as a result of this plea agreement, he is being held accountable for those crimes.”
