Broncos have some notable upcoming roster decisions, including one Wednesday on Delarrin Turner-Yell

The Broncos have some notable roster decisions to make in upcoming weeks. One must come on Wednesday.
The Broncos opened the 21-day practice window on safety Delarrin Turner-Yell on Oct. 30 while he has remained all season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. They must decide by Wednesday whether to place Turner-Yell, who suffered a torn ACL Dec. 31, 2023, against the Los Angeles Chargers, on the 53-man roster to leave him on the PUP list, ending his season.
By next Wednesday, Denver must make the same decision on linebacker Drew Sanders, also on the PUP list. The 21-day practice window was opened Nov. 6 for Sanders, who suffered a torn Achilles last April in spring drills.
The Broncos must decide by Dec. 11 at the latest on wide receiver Josh Reynolds, whose 21-day practice window opened last Wednesday. After missing the past six games while on injured reserve, Reynolds can be activated any time before that date.
Reynolds suffered a fractured finger Oct. 6 against Las Vegas and then sustained minor injuries as a shooting victim Oct. 18 in Denver. He has returned to practice as a full participant, but the Broncos are giving him time to work his way back. The assumption is they will end up activating him rather than shelve him for the remainder of the season.
The Broncos also might want to sign a veteran linebacker off the practice squad to the active roster at some point. Zach Cunningham told The Denver Gazette last week the initial plan was to elevate Kwon Alexander for three games and then him for three games before making a roster decision.
Alexander has reached the limit of three elevations for a season and Cunningham has one left. He said last week he expected to have his third elevation Sunday at Las Vegas.
Denver coach Sean Payton said recently it would be a “challenge” and “a little bit of a puzzle” to get multiple players on the 53-man roster. With the Broncos not having any significant recent injuries, to create room they might need to waive players with the hope of bringing them back to the practice squad.
Elway lauds Nix
In an interview with ESPN, Broncos Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway lauded the play of Denver rookie quarterback Bo Nix.
“Bo’s got all the tools. … I think the sky’s the limit for him,” Elway said of Nix, who threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns in last Sunday’s 38-6 win over Atlanta. “He’s just going to continue to get better and better the more comfortable he gets.”
Elway attended a practice during organized team activities last spring but said in the interview he never has met or talked to the rookie. He said that it is on him due to not being around the team much.
“If I could help him in any way, I would like to, but obviously he’s getting great tutelage now with the coaching he’s got and the situations he’s in,’’ Elway said. “I look forward to meeting him.”
Broncos not flexed
Tuesday’s deadline passed with the Broncos not being flexed out of their Monday Night Football appearance Dec. 2 against the Cleveland Browns at Empower Field at Mile High. So, Denver will play host to its first game on Monday night since a 16-14 loss to Tennessee on Sept. 14, 2020.
The Broncos are 6-5 and in the No. 7 spot in the AFC playoff race while Browns are just 2-8. But the recent strong play by Nix played a role in officials electing to keep the game on Dec. 2 and be televised nationally by ESPN.
