Get your running shoes ready! Turkey Trots happening in the Denver metro area

There are at least 13 events happening from Saturday through Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day.

With extra holiday calories looming, those in the Mile High City and surrounding areas are gearing up to lace up their running shoes and hit the streets for a festive and fitness-forward tradition — the Turkey Trot.

Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking to burn off those Thanksgiving calories or a family seeking a fun and active way to celebrate, the metro area is host to a cornucopia of Turkey Trot events.

Here’s a look at some of the different Turkey Trot events scheduled for 2024.

Saturday, Nov. 23

10k Turkey Trek & 5K Turkey Trot

Location: Long Lake Regional Park in Arvada

Time: Nov. 23, 9 a.m.

Cost: 5K $49, 10K $59 and a 2K untimed “turkey toddle” for $39

Details: An intense Turkey Trot with several holiday themed challenges throughout the course, including an eggnog chug and being pummeled by hay bales.

Feed your soul Turkey Trot 5K

Location: Prospect Park, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033

Time: Nov. 23, 9 a.m.

Cost: $34.09 standard pricing

Details: As Thanksgiving nears, some children face hunger instead of joy. Feed Your Soul’s Turkey Trot 5K supports initiatives like the Feed the Future Backpack Program and Community Table, providing meals to local kids in need. Wheat Ridge’s only Thanksgiving race offers a chance to run for a meaningful cause.

40th Annual Turkey Trot in Brighton

Location: Brighton Recreation Center

Time: Nov. 23. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. sharp, show up early for registration and packet pickup.

Cost: Adults $35, Youth (Under 19), $25, and seniors (over 60) $25

Details: The annual 5k race is back at the Brighton Recreation Center. This will be the event’s 40th anniversary. This 5k is a Bolder Boulder qualifying race.

10th Annual Harvesting Hope Turkey Trot

Location: Denver’s Central Park

Time: Nov. 23, 9 a.m.

Cost: Free. The race is for charity so charitable donations are invited.

Details: This annual Turkey Trot supports funding for Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). PWS is a genetic multisystem disorder characterized during infancy by lethargy, diminished muscle tone (hypotonia), and feeding difficulties with poor weight gain and growth and other hormone deficiency.

Turkey Day 5K

Location: Red Stone Park in Highlands Ranch

Time: Nov. 23, 7:30 a.m. registration opens, race starts at 9 a.m.

Cost: Adults $55, $150 for a pack of two adults and two children

Details: Turkey Day 5k is a south metro Denver tradition. Held annually, this event signals the start of the holiday season. Starting and ending near Shea Stadium in Highlands Ranch, runners and families alike join up with 3,000 participants.

Wednesday, Nov. 27

Turkey Mile 4 Real

Location: Niwot High School

Time: Nov. 27, 10 a.m. to Noon

Cost: $32.88

Details: This “festival of miles” will be held at Niwot High School’s speedy track and offers several full mile races.

Thursday, Nov. 28

51st Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot

Location: Denver’s Washington Park

Time: Nov. 28, 7:30 a.m. registration opens, 8:15 a.m. for first waves.

Cost: $60.57 for adults or $55.24 for military

Details: Since 1973, the Mile High United Way Turkey Trot has been a Thanksgiving tradition, drawing nearly 9,000 people to Washington Park each year.

Boulder Thanksgiving Day 5K

Location: Flatiron Park in Boulder

Time: Nov. 28, 9 a.m.

Cost: Registration costs are $15 for 12 & under (1K), $30 for 19 & under or 50 & older, and $35 for the open category; fees will increase to $20, $40, and $45 respectively starting 11/24.

Details: This event is a Bolder Boulder qualifier. The Alpine Bank Boulder Thanksgiving Day 5K and Kids 1K Fun Run at Flatiron Park (2209 Central Ave, Boulder, CO 80301), is an event celebrating family and friends and the many aspects a community can be thankful for. The event also supports Boulder’s Harvest of Hope Pantry.

Broomfield Turkey Day 5K/10K

Location: 13200 Sheridan Blvd., Broomfield

Time: Nov. 28, Race starts at 9 a.m., arrive early for registration.

Cost: 10K $59.30, 5k $49, Kids Fun Run $21.50. Prices go up after Nov. 27

Details: Welcoming all runners, walkers and pumpkin pie eaters alike! This fall event is fun for the whole family. The Broomfield Turkey Day also hosts a food drive for Broomfield FISH! 20th Annual Turkey Rock Trot

Location: Douglas County Event Center, Castle Rock, Colo.

Time: Nov. 28, Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., race waves start at 9 a.m.

Cost: Adults $45, Kids 17 and under $30, Kids 1k dash is free

Details: Come out and join Castle Rock’s largest attended running race, indoor expo, and Thanksgiving morning tradition – the 19th Annual Turkey ROCK Trot 5K Family Fun Run/Walk/Stroll in Castle Rock, CO. Whether you are a serious runner or leisurely walker, bring the whole family and start a new tradition.

The Pilgrimage Run

Location: Erie Rec Center in Erie, Colo.

Time: 9 a.m.

Cost: $45, $50 day of event. Kids 10 and under are free with a registered guardian. Kids over 10 can get a packet for $20.

Details: So, you thought Thanksgiving was about Turkey, eh? We’re glad you don’t any longer! Join us by running, walking, pushing a stroller or pulling a wagon on this great 2-mile course. The route is made up of 90% paved trails and 10% streets, making it a fantastic family event and easy for anyone to participate in! Both courses are very flat and forgiving!

The 4-Mile course is similar to the 2-Mile but includes an additional out & back portion of paved trail.

Turkey Day 5K Fun Run/Walk

Location: Parker Recreation Center (17301 E Lincoln Ave. Parker, CO US 80134)

Time: Nov. 28, 8-8:15 a.m.

Cost: $42.59 (price increases to $47.89 after Nov. 27)

Details: Part of the Parker Parks and Recreation Run Series, the family-friendly Turkey Day 5K is a laid-back trot that starts and finishes at the Parker Recreation Center. Registrants receive a commemorative knit beanie, souvenir race bib and hot cocoa, cider or coffee. This event is not officially timed. Strollers are welcome but because of the size of the event and for safety reasons, please leave dogs, bikes and scooters at home.

Louisville Turkey Trot 5K

Location: Front Street and Spruce Street (951 Spruce Street, Louisville, CO 80027)

Time: Nov. 28, 9 a.m.

Cost: $26.25 or $8.74 for ages under 14

Details: The 11th Annual AdventHealth Avista Louisville Turkey Trot was created as a means to collect food and donations for our local food bank. As the event grew, the Louisville Turkey Trot became a public benefit corporation, which is a corporation created to generate social and public good, and to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner.
