An 18-year-old Aurora man is dead following a wrong-way crash on eastbound Interstate 70 near Watkins early Sunday morning.
The teenager was driving in the opposite direction before colliding head-on with a semi-truck, according to a Colorado State Patrol news release on Monday.
At around 12:15 a.m., CSP received a call about a driver driving west on the eastbound lanes, according to authorities.
A state trooper found a Subaru Impreza parked facing the opposite way on the inside shoulder before it began moving again, CSP officials said.
With his emergency lights on, the trooper followed the car for several minutes before the semi-truck collision, according to the CSP.
CSP officials said the driver failed to stop for the troopers, resulting in the crash.
The driver, an 18-year-old man from Aurora, was killed on-scene, authorities said.
The driver of the semi-truck sustained no injuries, according to CSP.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release victim identification. Meanwhile, the crash investigation is being led by the Westminster Police Department and conducted by the 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
