Major Colorado road closed after driver was killed while exchanging information after crash
A tragic accident caused a major road closure on Colorado’s I-25 in the area of Colorado Springs on November 27, involving a secondary accident that resulted in the death of one of the involved parties.
According to Colorado State Patrol, a report was received regarding an accident between a Jeep and a Subaru Outback on northbound I-25 in the area of mile marker 160 at about 10:35 a.m.
After the collision, the two drivers moved their vehicles to the left shoulder of the route to exchange information. At that point, a truck traveling at a high rate of speed hit the vehicles that were involved in the initial crash.
When this secondary crash occurred, one of the drivers was struck by the Subaru Outback, ending up in southbound lanes of traffic. At that point, he was run over by southbound traffic, later pronounced deceased at the scene.
One of the southbound drivers who may have struck the man remained at the scene, though law enforcement thinks there’s a chance that others who may have been involved kept driving.
Anyone who witnessed this accident or may have information related to the man’s death has been instructed to contact Colorado State Patrol Dispatch at 719-544-2424. This includes passersby that had a dashboard camera running during the time of the secondary collision.
The investigation into the accident continues. Motorists have been told to anticipate delays in the area. Updates related to delays and closures can be found on the CoTrip Map. At time of publishing, northbound lanes remained closed, while two southbound lanes were closed, as well. The expected delay for northbound travelers was 67 minutes as of 11:29 a.m., while southbound delays were estimated at 24 minutes.
The identification of parties involved, including the man who is deceased, has not been released.
