Broncos QB Bo Nix is “ready to roll” after dealing with back issue

ENGLEWOOD — It appears there is no reason for concern over the health of Bo Nix.
The Broncos listed their starting rookie quarterback as a full practice participant Friday at Broncos Park. On Thursday, for a walkthrough, the team listed Nix as limited with a back injury. He was banged up last week in their road win over the Raiders and got treatment on his back late in the game.
The Broncos (7-5) host the Cleveland Browns (3-8) on Monday Night Football at Empower Field. Nix addressed his health status quickly with reporters on Friday.
“I’m good to go,” Nix said. “Ready to roll.”
Nix has claimed NFL rookie of the week honors in three consecutive weeks. He emerged as an NFL Rookie of the Year candidate alongside Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. Nix has thrown for 2,548 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 starts.
When asked if he is paying attention to the award race, Nix said: “Not really.”
“All I can focus on is the next game (and) the next opponent,” Nix continued. “What I can do to win, what I can do to help the team win and right now it’s just executing. There’s always going to be the off-the-field things. It doesn’t matter if you don’t play well.”
Allen full participant
Defensive end Zach Allen missed the road victory in Las Vegas with a heel injury. But the Pro Bowl hopeful returned for consecutive full practices this week, putting him on track to start against the Browns on Monday night.
“It’s all good. Just a little freak thing,” Allen said on Friday. “Trainers did a great job getting it back right. Just got to take it day by day. We’re in a good spot.”
Allen confirmed the heel injury took place in practice on Nov. 22 and said the athletic training staff “spent basically every waking hour kind of treating it.” Allen did not confirm if he will play against Cleveland. But he hinted that the injury is no longer a problem.
“The trainers did a great job. The whole staff here,” Allen said. “I really lucked out having them. They were able to knock it out really quick, which is good.”
Krull on Dulcich departure: ‘He’s going to get a shot’
The Broncos placed tight end Greg Dulcich on waivers last week and he was picked up by the Giants. Ex-teammate tight end Lucas Krull reacted to the Dulcich departure, and his second chance in New York.
“Our tight end room is extremely tight. We’re all really close friends,” Krull said on Friday. “To see him move on, obviously, it really (stinks) because we have such a great relationship with him. … Seeing him get picked up, we were so unbelievably happy and proud of him. Extremely smart and extremely talented. He’s going to get a shot. I can’t wait.”
Lions sign ILB Alexander
The Detroit Lions on Friday reached an agreement to sign linebacker Kwon Alexander off the Broncos practice squad.
Alexander was signed Sept. 25 to Denver’s practice squad and eventually was elevated the maximum of three times for games, starting in two. However, the Broncos elected Wednesday to sign linebacker Zach Cunningham off the practice squad instead of Alexander after Cunningham had been elevated three times after Alexander was.
The Lions lost linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez to season-ending torn ACL injury in Thursday’s 23-20 win over Chicago.
Briefly
— CB Riley Moss did not practice for consecutive days with a knee injury. Coach Sean Payton has yet to address his status against the Browns. DL John Franklin-Myers, previously limited with a shoulder injury, was a full participant on Friday at practice.
— CB Pat Surtain evaluated the play of Browns QB Jameis Winston following practice. Surtain said: “He is very confident in his ability and in himself as well. You can see the team is rallying behind him.”
— The Broncos have not missed a field goal or extra point (13-13) since their blocked FG attempt in Kansas City. Special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica said: “I think anytime as a coach you see the group of men put work in and it pay off, that’s always rewarding.”
