Evacuations lifted in Byers after structure fire contained by firefighters

The fire was declared under control just before noon. Deputies evacuated homes in the area

A fire in Byers was extinguished just before 4 p.m. Friday, after the Araphoe County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuations for up to 30 homes.

The fire, which started in a building at the 600 block of East Pleasant Avenue caused explosions, according to the sheriff’s office, which issued a code red emergency alert.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday morning it had issued a Code Red emergency alert and was evacuating up to 30 homes in Byers due to a large structure fire.

The fire was in the 600 block of East Pleasant Avenue in the town along Interstate 70 east of the Denver metro area, the sheriff’s office said.

The building on fire appeared to be a barn or shop. Flammables inside include large trucks and fuel tanks, and explosions were reported, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies were evacuating about 25 to 30 homes in the area. Multiple fire agencies were responding.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office reported at 4:40 p.m. Friday residents were allowed back home after the fire had been contained.

Just before noon, the sheriff’s office said the fire was under control but not extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
