Bernie Sanders finds agreement with Musk on cutting Pentagon budget

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), one of the most progressive members of Congress, found himself Sunday in rare agreement with tech billionaire Elon Musk.

“Elon Musk is right,” Sanders posted to Musk’s X platform, in reference to the Trump ally’s apparent openness to slashing defense spending. “The Pentagon, with a budget of $886 billion, just failed its 7th audit in a row. It’s lost track of billions. Last year, only 13 senators voted against the Military Industrial Complex and a defense budget full of waste and fraud.”

“That must change,” Sanders concluded.

Days earlier, Musk responded with interest on X when Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) expressed desire to work with the incoming Trump administration to cut “waste, fraud, and abuse” from the Department of Defense.

Musk, along with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, were tapped by President-elect Donald Trump to head up the yet-to-be-established Department of Government Efficiency.

Matt Gaetz, the former firebrand House Republican from Florida accused of sexual misconduct with minors and a brief Trump attorney general nominee, responded in jest to Sanders’s post.

“Welcome home, Bernie,” Gaetz posted.

Rep.
