Global aerospace company Safran is expanding to Colorado, state officials announced Tuesday.
Safran Defense & Space Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of the company headquartered in Paris, chose Colorado for its new manufacturing facility to build electric propulsion thrusters, according to the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade.
Colorado marks the 25th state Safran has a presence in. Gov. Jared Polis congratulated the company for choosing Colorado in a news release.
“Colorado aerospace companies are at the forefront of technological innovation, and Safran will continue that legacy while creating 20 new, good-paying jobs,” Polis said.
The expansion is expected to support the fast-growing small satellite market and add 20 high-paying jobs in Colorado for roles such as engineers, technicians and operators.
“We are confident the Safran team will find themselves in good company as they innovate small satellite technology and help advance this key sector of our economy,” OEDIT Executive Director Eve Lieberman said in the release.
The state awarded Safran $371,000 in job growth tax incentives back in July when the company was considering between the metro Denver area and Irvine, Calif.
Safran chose Colorado because of its large aerospace industry, workforce and access to the supply chain. It will locate the expansion in Parker in Douglas County.
“Colorado is strategically located and home to an aerospace ecosystem that will advance Safran’s long-standing commitment to investing in the U.S. and deliver our capabilities to meet the dynamic needs of the U.S. space market,” said Joe Bogosian, president and CEO of Safran Defense & Space, Inc.
