Colorado State’s Brooke Carlson doubles up on Mountain West’s weekly honors

Colorado State has its next women’s basketball standout.

Brooke Carlson on Monday became the first Mountain West player to earn the league’s freshman and player of the week honors in the same week. A 5-foot-8 guard from Batavia, Ill., Carlson also became the first freshman to win player of the week since the 2020-21 season.

The accolades arrived after Carlson recorded 18 points, five assists and two steals in 27 minutes of a 74-72 overtime win against Gonzaga on Sunday. She also scored the game-winning bucket, a layup with 2 seconds left in overtime.

Colorado State overcame a 20-point deficit to beat Gonzaga in front of a crowd of 5,500 at Moby Arena. The Rams outscored the Bulldogs 24-9 in the third quarter to ignite the comeback.

Colorado State’s now had two players earn weekly honors. Kloe Froebe previously was named Mountain West freshman of the week, while Emma Ronsiek was named player of the week. CSU hosts UTEP at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
