A man attempting to flee a hospital died Saturday night while trying to cross Interstate 25 near C-470 in Lone Tree.
In a news release, Lone Tree officials said a man, who was on a mental health hold at Sky Ridge Medical Center, fled after 5 p.m.
The man jumped the fence, tried running across I-25, then was hit by multiple vehicles, according to Lone Tree officials.
The man was transported back to the hospital, where he later died, officials said.
Multiple lanes were closed in both directions and later reopened around 8 p.m.
City officials added officers witnessed a person on light rail tracks, prompting authorities to request a Regional Transportation District train shut down at the Lincoln Station platform. There, a man was seen fleeing south.
Both Lone Tree police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the fatal crash.
