An undercover Boulder County investigation has led to the arrest of a Longmont man on four counts of child exploitation charges, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
Boulder authorities on Saturday arrested Joseph Alexander, 37, on the four felony counts.
Through a Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab investigation that began in May, authorities found more than 2,000 child sexual abuse material files shared through the internet associated to the suspect’s residence in the 800 block of Crisman Drive in Longmont.
Lab investigators found the address through an IP address, prompting authorities to obtain a search warrant, sheriff’s officials said.
A search of the home on July 10 resulted in the seizure of numerous electronic devices. Within those devices, investigators found thousands of Peer-to-Peer files containing child sex abuse material, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Peer-to-Peer software allowed the suspect to download and share files with other users worldwide through the internet, sheriff officials said, adding this led to authorities obtaining an arrest warrant for Alexander.
Alexander was booked into the Boulder County Jail with no bond until a judicial hearing. He faces two counts of sexual exploitation of a child for video possession and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child for possession of images, according to authorities.
The Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab investigates child sexual exploitation cases, high technology crimes and provides digital forensics expertise and analysis.
The Colorado ICAC Task Force — comprised of lab investigators from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Department of Public Safety, Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, Boulder Police Department and Weld County Sheriff’s Office — assisted in the investigation.
