Colorado voters undecided over choices for governor among Democrats, poll says

U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, a Lafayette Democrat, speaks during a House Rules Committee markup hearing, part of the existing House of Representatives inquiry into whether sufficient grounds exist to impeach President Joe Biden on Dec. 12, 2023, in Washington. On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, Neguse was elected assistant Democratic leader, making the Colorado lawmaker the highest-ranking member of the state's delegation since the 1930s.

A majority of voters are undecided about their next choice for Colorado governor among a few potential Democratic aspirants.
The poll only offered potential Democratic candidates.
The nonprofit Healthier Colorado released its findings of its first poll on the 2026 Democratic governor primary election. The poll asked Democrats and unaffiliated voters on four potential gubernatorial candidates: Colorado U.S. Rep Joe Neguse, Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Attorney General Phil Weiser, and former Colorado Attorney General and current ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar.
Griswold received the highest favorability score — but also the most unfavorable rating. Her office recently came under fire for accidentally posting voting equipment passwords online, violating state policy. While subsequent investigations deemed it “unintentional,” critics said more scrutiny is needed.
Neguse, who currently serves as assistant Democratic leader in the US House, received a 40% favorability rating, as did Salazar. Weiser received a 32% favorability rating among respondents.
When asked which potential candidate they would vote for in the 2026 election, 37% of participants said they are undecided. Neguse received 20% of the vote, while Griswold, Salazar, and Weiser received 16%, 11%, and 8%, respectively.
None of the individuals included in the survey has explicitly declared intent to run for governor to succeed Gov. Jared Polis, who is term limited.
