Light agenda for Denver City Council meeting Monday

Denver City Council will have a light week this week.
The the only scheduled meetings is the regular Monday City Council meeting at 3:30 p.m., followed by the general public comment session at 5 p.m. There are no proclamations or scheduled public hearings, and city officials expect things to wrap up at 5:30 p.m.
Councilmembers will consider a resolution approving Mayor Mike Johnston’s appointments to the Cherry Creek North Business Improvement District. Johnston’s selections include USB Financial private wealth manager Paul Kai Addo III, Culinary Creative Group founder and CEO Juan Padro and Alpine Bank-Denver Senior Vice President Margaux Askeland, each for a term ending Nov. 30, 2027.
Meanwhile, legislation has been introduced to update the Denver Municipal Code to increase the formal bidding threshold to $150,000 and the informal bidding threshold to less than $150,000 citywide.
In other news, the bill that would give newly elected Denver District Attorney John Walsh a 4% annual salary increase over the next four years will return to the council for consideration. It was postponed by the council during the Dec. 16 regular meeting. In a Dec. 4 presentation to the Safety, Housing Education and Homelessness Committee, Walsh said the pay bump is necessary to address not only increased workloads but also “higher costs of living.”
Salary information from the city shows the current DA salary set at $244,816. If passed, by Jan. 1, 2028, that salary would jump to $286,400, roughly a $10,000 annual pay bump over the next four years. According to city officials, the lowest-paid full-time employee in the DA’s office gets $44,000 annually.
Due to the holidays, committee meetings scheduled for the week of Dec. 23 have been canceled, and all city council offices will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25.
