Nuggets’ Aaron Gordon out against Cavaliers with calf strain

The Nuggets will be down at least one starter when the NBA’s best record comes to town Friday.

Aaron Gordon will not play against the 26-4 Cleveland Cavaliers due to a right calf strain suffered midway through the Nuggets’ Christmas Day loss to the Suns. Gordon previously missed most of November after straining the same calf muscle against Toronto on Nov. 4. He made his return Dec. 1 before suffering another setback Wednesday in Phoenix.

Gordon ranks fifth on the Nuggets with 13.7 points per game and third in rebounds with 5.8 rebounds per game.

Jamal Murray, who missed Monday’s game against the Suns in Denver, returned Wednesday and played 39 minutes in Phoenix. He’s listed as probable for Friday’s game, while Vlatko Cancar and DaRon Holmes II remain out, as expected.

The Cavaliers will be without wing Isaac Okoro, who’s started 16 of Cleveland’s games, with an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder. Forward Dean Wade is questionable with right knee soreness, and Cleveland also has a handful of players on G League assignments.
