Where good news shines
Denver Pioneers hockey is all over the World Junior Championships in Ottawa, Ontario.
Team USA lost to Finland 4-3 in overtime Sunday. But the Pios’ presence remains strong.
Denver coach David Carle is coaching the Americans. DU sophomore defenseman Zeev Buium is in Team USA’s lineup for the second time and is an alternate captain.
DU director of hockey operations Travis Culhane is serving as the U.S. video coach. Nick Meldrum is working his third World Juniors as the equipment manager.
Further, University of Minnesota head coach Steve Miller is an assistant on Carle’s staff with USA Hockey. Miller was a DU assistant for 20 years. USA Hockey assistant David Lassonde was a Pioneers assistant from 2011-14.
Team USA finishes the preliminary round Tuesday against Canada.
