Molson Coors offers free RTD rides on New Year’s Eve

Need a ride home after New Year’s Eve holiday celebrations? Molson Coors Beverage Co., in collaboration with the Regional Transportation District, is offering “Zero Fare New Year’s Eve” free rides on RTD’s transit system.

“To ensure that those celebrating in Denver have a reliable ride, we are excited to activate the Free Rides program once again across the U.S. this New Year’s Eve,” said Alison Hanrahan, community affairs manager for Molson Coors, in a news release. “In collaboration with RTD, we are looking forward to fostering community and fellowship as we ring in the New Year.”

Free rides will be available from 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 31 to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1.

RTD isn’t the only place to get a free ride on New Year’s Eve in metro Denver. The Wilhite Law Firm, like it has since 2006, is offering to reimburse rideshare users Tuesday, Dec. 31, “to keep Colorado roads and citizens safe from accidents caused by drunk driving,” according to its website. The offer includes reimbursement up to $35 on a one-way ride home on New Year’s Eve from Uber or Lyft. Receipts must be submitted within two weeks of Dec. 31.

Molson Coors has offered more than eight million free transit rids since 1988. The program has seen a more than 60% increase in ridership in the past three years, according to a release.

“As customers plan their celebrations to bring in the new year, transportation is a critical detail they will not have to worry about by using RTD’s services,” General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Debra A. Johnson said in the release. “The agency’s longstanding partnership with Molson Coors enables the public to navigate the entirety of the transit system at no cost on this holiday evening.”

Those joining in the New Year’s Eve festivities — like the drone shows and fireworks scheduled for downtown Denver — are encouraged to plan ahead for a free ride to or from their celebrations. Customers can visit the RTD website at rtd-denver.com or the Next Ride app trip planning tool to review routes and arrange transportation before the celebration begins.

Through partnerships with local public transit, Molson Coors is also offering fare-free rides on New Year’s Eve for celebrators in Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Milwaukee, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. The New Year’s Eve Free Rides program marks the finale of this year’s Free Rides initiative, with more planned in 2025. In 2024, Molson Coors also sponsored Free Rides in 10 cities across the U.S. for events such as St. Patrick’s Day and various sporting events.

Gentle reminder, though Molson Coors is sponsoring the free RTD ride, there’s strict rules prohibiting consumption of alcohol on trains and buses.
