Denver welcomes first babies born in 2025, all boys
After the fireworks died down, Denver welcomed its first born babies of 2025 — all boys.
Madden was born at Intermountain Health’s St. Joseph 25 minutes into the new year, with Sammer not far behind at Denver Health.
Sammer Andre Arellano Cambero came into the world at 1:49 a.m. Wednesday morning to parents Angelica Cambero Grisales and Jesus Arellano Sanchez, making him the first baby to be born at Denver Health in 2025, according to a press release from the hospital.
Sitting at 7 lbs., 9 oz. and measuring in at 19.5 inches long, Sammer was born healthy to an excited family, including his older sister, Ella.
“I’m grateful to Denver Health for their receptivity and dedication in everything they do, from the administrative and medical teams to everyone in general,” Cambero Grisales, Sammer’s mother, said in the press release. “I’d especially like to honor the work done by the nurses and doctors in the obstetrics department here in pavilion C.”
Along with the sentimental birthday and record of being the first baby born in the city in 2025, the family received 2,025 diapers from the Denver Health Foundation’s Newborns in Need program the celebrate the occasion.
Newborns in Need is a donation program that provides baby essentials to new parents in need since 2003. Over its 21-year run, the program has donated over 134,000 diapers and 201,000 hats.
Along with the birth of Sammer, the Denver Health hospital celebrated delivery records in consecutive years with 3,841 deliveries in 2023 and more than 4,300 in 2024, according to the release.
Denver Health sees one-third of all babies born in Denver.
“The fact that so many people in Denver trust us to deliver their babies is an honor and a testament to the high-quality and equitable care we provide to all in our community,” Dr. Stefka Fabbri, chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Denver Health, said in the release. “When you choose to deliver your baby at Denver Health, you’re met with an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, midwives and specialists who care deeply about your well-being and want to give your child the healthiest start in life.”
Intermountain Health first babies
Just a few miles away from Denver Health, another boy was born on New Year’s Day at Intermountain Health’s Saint Joseph Hospital, marking the first 2025 baby for the hospital.
Madden was born at the Denver hospital at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday to his mother, Ineesha, at 4 lbs., 2 oz., according to a press release from Intermountain Health.
Two other Colorado baby boys weren’t far behind at Intermountain Health Hospitals. Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette welcomed its first baby of the New Year at 2:44 a.m. Ezra weighed 7lbs. , 2 oz.
In Wheat Ridge at Lutheran Hospital, the first baby of 2025 arrived at 4:01 a.m. Oliver James weighed 6 lbs., 6 oz.
