Learning Care Group schools to hold open house | CLASSNOTES

Polis reads to Jackson Elementary UPK class

Learning Care Group, an early education and child care provider with roughly two dozen sites across the Denver metro region, will hold an open house for prospective students at all of its schools from 5:30–7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The open houses are for parents, caregivers and their children.

In 2020, Colorado voters approved Proposition EE, a nicotine and tobacco tax, to fund universal preschool.

Free universal preschool is a cornerstone of Gov. Jared Polis’s legislative agenda. In 2023, nearly 60% of eligible 4-year-olds enrolled in the first year of the program.

Education experts consider 70% the threshold to be considered a universal program. Head Start and Pre-K programs work toward the same goal of getting kids acclimated to learning in a classroom environment.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, just 13% of the state’s 3- and 4-year-olds were enrolled in Head Start, according to a 2021 Colorado legislative report.

Universal Pre-K is any state-funded preschool program for which age is the only eligibility criterion.

Denver Public Schools is the largest Pre-K provider in the county, serving about seven in 10 students.

Learning Care Group schools offer part-time and full-day programs, personalized learning, healthy meals and live-streaming video access for parents and caregivers.

Open house attendees will be able to meet the school’s teachers and tour the learning environment.

School is available for children ages 6 months to 12 years.
