First responders transported yet another downtown Denver stabbing victim to the hospital early Thursday morning, just four days after a string of stabbings shook Denver.
The Denver Police Department responded to a stabbing around 12 a.m. Thursday in the area of Larimer Street and 20th Street in the Ballpark District neighborhood, according to a social media post by the department.
A single victim was found and transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries but is expected to survive.
The department later arrested 21-year-old Andrew Wagner in connection to the stabbing, according to a subsequent social media post.
Just four blocks over, 24-year-old Elijah Caudill allegedly stabbed four people, killing two between Saturday and Sunday on the 16th Street Mall.
The two murder victims included 34-year-old Nicholas Burkett and 71-year-old Celinda Levno, the latter a Phoenix-based flight attendant with American Airlines on a layover in the city.
“This is a tragic, catastrophic event in our city,” Mayor Mike Johnston said at a news conference on Monday about the four stabbings, calling the nature of the attacks “exceedingly rare” and “random.”
“I think we have not seen random acts of violence like this in our city center for as long as we can remember,” Johnston continued. “We will commit to increasing the number of police patrols and police presence here in downtown in the weeks and months ahead.”
Denver District Attorney John Walsh said Monday he expects to file murder charges against Caudill this week.
