Fetterman rips rumors he’ll switch to GOP: ‘Rocket sled to Palookaville’

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) shot down rumors that he would switch to the Republican Party.

Speaking to Semafor, Fetterman dismissed such rumors as “amateur hour s***,” vowing to remain with the Democratic Party. He elaborated that even if he wanted to switch, he’d be an unpopular Republican.

“It’s not gonna happen. … And even if I wanted to do that, that is a rocket sled to Palookaville to try to switch. I would make a pretty bad Republican,” he said.

Fetterman told the outlet that he has assured Democratic leadership privately that he has no intentions of leaving the party despite any disagreements he may have.

Coming into office as a progressive darling, Fetterman has won some fans among Republicans for his ardent pro-Israel stance and willingness to break with his party on issues such as immigration and policing. He became the first Democratic senator to travel to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump before he took office, where the president called him “impressive.”

Despite this, Fetterman has remained a loyal Democrat. He was a major supporter of former President Joe Biden, then former Vice President Kamala Harris during her unsuccessful presidential run in 2024.

Fetterman was one of the most noticeable attendees of Trump’s inauguration, attending the prestigious ceremony in a hoodie and shorts, despite the frigid weather.
