Loveland police search for suspect accused of abandoning dogs in frigid temperatures

The Loveland Police Department is searching for a man accused of animal cruelty after abandoning two dogs.

According to the police department, 27-year-old Colton Kalebaugh allegedly abandoned two dogs at the Fairgrounds Dog Park inside the fencing. The dogs were found on Jan. 8 just before 4 a.m. With the frigid temperatures dropping into the single digits, the police department said that the “two were in need of immediate attention.”

In an update posted to Facebook on Jan. 15, the police department said that both of the dogs have recovered well and are in the care of a partnering agency.

Officers have been working on the investigation. With community information and the help of partnering agencies, they were able to identify Kalebaugh. Probable cause was obtained, and a warrant was issued.

If you know Kalebaugh or his whereabouts, contact the tip line at 970-962-2032 or reach out to the Larimer Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
