Broncos’ Bo Nix, Sean Payton and Patrick Surtain among finalists for AP NFL awards
Denver in contention for NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year
The Broncos have three finalists for NFL awards handed out by the Associated Press.
Quarterback Bo Nix is in consideration for Offensive Rookie of the Year, coach Sean Payton for Coach of the Year and cornerback Pat Surtain for Defensive Player of the Year, it was announced on Thursday. The winners will be named Feb. 6 ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Nix led all rookie quarterbacks in completions (376), passing yards (3,775), touchdown passes (29) and total touchdowns (33) in the regular season. Nix is among five nominees for the award with Raiders tight end Brock Bowers, Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers and Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.
Payton, in his second season, led Denver to its first playoff berth since 2015 and won 10 games. He joins Dan Campbell (Lions), Kevin O’Connell (Vikings), Dan Quinn (Commanders) and Andy Reid (Chiefs) in consideration for the award.
Surtain ranked as the NFL’s top cornerback by Pro Football Focus. He returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in Week 5 against the Raiders. Surtain is nominated for the award along with Eagles outside linebacker Zack Baun, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson and Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt.
