The Pioneers bounced back.

The No. 5-ranked University of Denver hockey team rebounded from a loss Friday with a 2-1 win at Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.

DU (18-6-0, 7-5-0 NCHC) dropped the first game of the series 4-3.

Samu Salminen opened the scoring for the Pioneers with a goal just before the end of the first period. It was Salminen’s seventh goal of the season. Eric Pohlkamp and Sam Harris picked up assists on the goal.

Early in the second period, Carter King gave Denver a 2-0 lead with his 13th goal of the season. Jack Devine and Pohlkamp had the assists.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard later in the second with a goal by Owen Gallatin. And that was all the scoring for both teams.

Goalie Matt Davis, who didn’t play in Friday’s loss, made 29 saves in the win.

Minnesota Duluth goaltender Klayton Knapp finished with 28 saves in the loss, one night after he stopped a career-high 42 shots in a 4-3 win over the Pioneers.

Denver is 9-2-0 in its last 11 meetings against Minnesota Duluth.

The Pioneers return home next weekend for a two-game set with Omaha. Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. and the puck drops at 6 p.m. Saturday.
