An Adams County deputy shot and killed a homicide and carjacking suspect in an exchange of gunfire Saturday morning.
The Brighton Police Department said at around 8:44 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of an assault victim in the 200 block of North 11th Avenue. Officers found a 72-year-old man who had been killed in an assault.
Police said the early stages of their investigation revealed that the suspect was a family member of the victim. Other family members reported that the suspect had been acting erratically. He was driving a silver Honda CRV, and that information was shared with surrounding law enforcement agencies, police said.
At 9:37 a.m., Thornton Police were called to a crash involving the suspect’s vehicle near the 4700 block of East 168th Avenue. Brighton Police said a passerby who stopped to help was carjacked at knifepoint by the suspect, who drove off in the victim’s Chevrolet Camaro.
