Aurora Quest K-8 School in eastern Aurora, which closed early Thursday because of flooding, will reopen Friday, according to Aurora Public Schools.
The district announced the closure around 7:30 a.m. Thursday after a fire sprinkler system fitting failed in one of the classrooms, causing flooding in several rooms. Officials confirmed the issue was unrelated to the recent cold weather in the Denver metro area.
Three classrooms were heavily impacted and will be relocated to other areas of the building, while the rest of the school was unaffected and will operate normally.
Students already en route on buses Thursday morning were kept in a safe place at the school until parents could pick them up. All other Aurora Public Schools remained open on a normal schedule.
“We would like to thank our custodial, maintenance, and operations staff for their prompt response and hard work in restoring and cleaning up our school today,” the district said in a statement.
