Drivers heading into Denver from Interstate 25 may see a bit of increased traffic due to recent closures by the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI).
Walsh Place — a small road in the West Washington Park neighborhood — will be closed down on Monday as part of DOTI’s travel and safety improvements at South Broadway and I-25, according to a news release from the department.
Starting on Monday, drivers heading north on Broadway will detour around Walsh Place with a right turn onto Ohio Street and then a left turn onto Lincoln Street. Travelers on the northbound I-25 off ramp will continue north onto Lincoln in a single lane through the detour area, according to the department.
People traveling west on Ohio Street will be able to make a right turn only at Lincoln. They can also use Alameda Avenue as an alternate route to northbound I-25.
The detour is expected to last six weeks as part of the project that started in the summer of 2023. DOTI is creating a new southbound on-ramp to I-25, multi-use pathways for cyclists and pedestrians, new traffic signals and other additions with a project cost estimated at more than $60 million.
The entirety of the construction is expected to last until the summer of 2026.
DOTI asks travelers in the area to slow down in the detour region and use alternate routes if possible.
