Editor’s note: following the incident, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office added that three deputies were shot in the standoff overall. All suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A deputy was shot after the serving of a search warrant turned into a barricade situation at a home in Adams County Thursday morning.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, along with the Brighton Police Department, began serving a search warrant near 20400 E. 160th Ave. around 11 a.m., according to a social media post by the sheriff’s office. The interaction quickly turned into a standoff situation at the home.
A shelter in place order was issued for those living in the nearby area shortly after the situation turned into a standoff, leading to the SWAT team attempting to enter the home.
During the forced entry, the suspect shot at the deputies, according to the sheriff’s office. A deputy was hit in the hand and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
