No. 6 Denver Pioneers hockey dominates Miami (Ohio) in 5-1 win

DU hockey vs. Miami

Five players netted goals as the No. 6-ranked Denver Pioneers rolled past Miami (Ohio) 5-1 on Friday in Oxford, Ohio.

Jack Devine, Garrett Brown, Carter King, Jake Fisher and James Reeder all scored for the Pioneers (22-8-1, 11-7-1 NCHC). It was a complete team effort as five players, led by Aidan Thompson, recorded assists in the conference win.

King and Thompson eclipsed 100 points in their University of Denver careers. There have been 105 players to achieve that feat.

The Pioneers were just as good on defense as they were on offense. The Pioneers gave up 19 shots with goalie Matt Davis, who was named a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award on Thursday, stopping 18 of them.

DU is battling for home-ice advantage in the NCHC playoffs. The win moved up the Pioneers to fourth in the conference standings.

It was the 21st loss in a row for the RedHawks, who have not won a conference game this season.

The two-game set against the RedHawks continues Saturday as puck drop is set for 4 p.m. It will be the last road game until DU faces off with No. 20 Colorado College on March 8 in Colorado Springs in the regular-season finale.
