‘Locals’ favorite’ ski area in Colorado set to expand terrain for 2025-2026 season

Located near the mountain town of Salida, Monarch Mountain is set to expand next ski season, introducing 377 acres of brand-new, lift-served terrain in an area known as No Name Basin.

The new terrain will include 10-12 newly named runs that stretch over 1,000 vertical feet. The terrain has been described as ‘intermediate’ and ‘advanced’ with groomed, bump, and gladed sections. The expansion aims to provide 50% more skiable acres that are accessible from the Breezeway or Panorama Lifts.

As well as the new terrain, Monarch Mountain is installing a Skytrac three-person fixed-grip lift, ski patrol outpost, and warming hut.

The ski area began work on the project in July 2024, and development and construction will continue through the summer of 2025 so the terrain will be ready for the 2025 – 2026 ski season.

The expansion also seems to be highly anticipated by fans of the resort, with some commenting they are “so stoked for the expansion” and that it will be a “great addition.”

Monarch Mountain is currently offering the Wings Pass, which gets you on the mountain for the rest of this season and all of next. The pass is currently on sale for $699 for adults.
